As I toured the district and later addressed a rally, I emphasised the importance of sustainable agriculture. I was particularly concerned about the under-utilisation of fertile land, especially the mismanagement of rice cultivation in the valleys. In Pallisa District, for example, fish farming has restored swamps and proved significantly more profitable than rice. By restoring swamps and irrigating dry land, farmers can substantially increase their income.
