A Mother’s Courage

A Mother's Courage

Between 1981 and 1986, my wife faced a daunting challenge in our family's journey. With our young children - Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience, and baby Diana - she courageously led them into exile, alone in Kenya and later in Sweden. While I had previously been with them during our earlier exile in Tanzania (1971-1979), this time, circumstances forced her to bear the weight of our family's safety and well-being.

Despite my growing recognition and friendships across Africa and beyond, the systems didn't always support us. It was a period where she shouldered all responsibilities until we found refuge in Sweden, where the support system was notably compassionate. I deeply appreciate the Swedish people for their kindness and Ambassador Mirjam Blaak for her efforts in aiding my family from 1983 to 1986.

Above all, I am thankful to God for blessing me with Maama Janet, who kept our family together even as I fought for our nation's freedom afar
