Honoring a Legacy of General Aronda Nyakairima and the Unbreakable Bond Between the Army and the People

I attended the memorial thanksgiving service for the late Gen. Aronda Nyakairima at Munyonyo this morning. I want to salute all the Ugandans who kept reinforcing us in the army by joining and working with us, and even today, they are still doing it. “Ogwiine kyenegyeza tuguraara.” The fire that people continue to fuel will never be extinguished.

When Aronda became CDF, he rejuvenated one of the principles of the NRA: the strategic relationship with the people. Mao Tse Tung said we must be like fish in the water; you cannot have fish without water; likewise, we cannot have the army without the masses. I also thank him for jumpstarting Wazelendo, which is now a big Sacco.
