Happy Independence Day to all Ugandans!
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has once again extended his appreciation to the peace-loving citizens of Uganda and to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for their continued role in maintaining peace and stability across the nation.
He emphasized that all the progress Uganda continues to enjoy stems from the prevailing peace—peace that is anchored in the National Resistance Movement’s long-standing policy of reconciliation and forgiveness, coupled with a firm stand against criminality and violence.
During his Independence Day message, President Museveni also warmly welcomed back Col. Samson Mande, who had been in exile due to past internal misunderstandings. While abroad, Col. Mande was briefly involved in rebel activities, but through dialogue and outreach by NRM cadres in Sweden, he accepted to return home and disassociate himself from rebellion.
President Museveni commended his decision, noting that Uganda remains a peaceful and reconciliatory nation that embraces all its sons and daughters willing to contribute to national unity and development.
