President Museveni Engages Teso Leaders on Cattle Compensation and Regional Unity

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with leaders of the Teso sub-region at Soroti University to review progress on the cattle compensation program and chart a way forward for its effective and timely implementation. The discussions also addressed historical challenges, including identity-based politics and cattle rustling that have affected the region since 1962.

The President expressed satisfaction that 28,000 individuals have already received partial compensation. He further recommended that the program should prioritize equitable distribution, ensuring that all 169,000 households benefit fairly.

To strengthen community cohesion, President Museveni proposed the establishment of a committee composed of elders and youth to guide the implementation process. He emphasized the need for a practical system that guarantees five cows per household, promoting both justice and unity among the people of Teso.
