The first group of 35 Ugandan Muslim pilgrims fully sponsored by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has safely arrived in Medina, Saudi Arabia, marking the beginning of their sacred spiritual journey.
Another group of 35 pilgrims is scheduled to depart Uganda on 12th May 2026, while the final group will travel on 17th May 2026 to continue the pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca.
The first delegation traveled through Anwaary Travel under the leadership of Imam Ahmad Sulaiman Kyeyune, while the second group will travel through Tawakal Travels. Both Umrah and Hajj travel agencies were entrusted by State House to coordinate and provide Hajj services for the pilgrims.
During their stay in Medina, the pilgrims will pray at the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), pay respects at the tomb of Prophet Muhammad, and visit significant Islamic historical sites before proceeding to Mecca for the main Hajj rituals. The delegation is being coordinated by the Special Presidential Assistant in charge of Press and Mobilization, who also serves as the Deputy Press Secretary to H.E. the President, Haji Faruk Kirunda.
Each fully sponsored Hajj package provided by President Museveni is valued at USD 5,500, covering the pilgrims’ travel and pilgrimage expenses.
