President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this evening hosted Gen. Dr. HC Archon Bartolomeu Savoiu and a delegation from Romania at State House, Entebbe, where they held discussions on leadership, faith, and the values that strengthen societies.
During the meeting, President Museveni emphasized the importance of fostering unity among citizens regardless of religious denomination or background. He noted that Uganda’s approach is rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly the principle of loving one’s neighbour, which serves as a foundation for peaceful coexistence and national harmony.
The President highlighted that Uganda does not promote sectarianism based on religion or denomination. Instead, the country embraces inclusivity, recognizing Orthodox Christians, Anglicans, Pentecostals, Catholics, Muslims, and members of other faith communities as equal participants in the nation’s development and progress.
Reflecting on Uganda’s history, President Museveni observed that colonial-era influences contributed to divisions between religious groups, particularly Catholics and Protestants. However, through deliberate efforts and nation-building initiatives, Ugandans have worked together to overcome these differences and strengthen national cohesion.
President Museveni also commended the spirit of tolerance and peaceful coexistence that characterizes Uganda’s diverse society, noting that Muslim communities, who make up a significant portion of the population, continue to live harmoniously alongside people of other faiths.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting unity, mutual respect, tolerance, and the enduring principles of faith as essential pillars in Uganda’s continued growth, stability, and prosperity.
