President Museveni Launches USD 500 Million Devki Mega Steel Plant in Tororo

For more than five centuries, the continent has suffered immense value loss through slavery, colonialism, and the export of unprocessed raw materials. The establishment of this fully integrated steel plant—set to employ over 15,000 Ugandans—brings the country closer to reversing this historical trend. It will help Uganda retain more of its mineral wealth, protect local jobs, and strengthen the nation’s foreign exchange position.

This project marks a powerful step toward building an economically independent and industrially advanced Africa.
