Today, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presided over the NRA Victory 40th Anniversary celebrations at Kololo Independence Grounds. Since 1986, Uganda has progressed through five phases of economic recovery, beginning with restoring stability, followed by diversification and value addition. Today, the nation is firmly positioned in the knowledge economy, with growth anchored in agriculture, manufacturing, services, and the emerging oil and gas sector.
Manufacturing now supplies approximately 65% of goods in Uganda’s supermarkets, while agriculture and services continue to generate wealth. Locally made Kiira vehicles are on the roads, and oil production near Lake Albert is set to begin this year.
President Museveni acknowledged that while he received eight million votes, participation was affected by incidents of intimidation, violence, and internal indiscipline. He emphasized that addressing these challenges is essential to improving civic engagement, maintaining national stability, and ensuring that every Ugandan plays an active role in the country’s transformation.
