President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni received Ambassador Takahashi Misako, Japan’s Assistant Minister for African Affairs, and her delegation for discussions on strengthening cooperation between Uganda and Japan.
During the meeting, President Museveni expressed appreciation to the Japanese Government for its continued support to Uganda, particularly in infrastructure development. He highlighted major projects supported by Japan, including the Kampala Flyover and the Source of the Nile Bridge in Jinja, among other initiatives.
The President also discussed Uganda’s plans to acquire road construction and maintenance equipment directly through the Japanese Government, without involving middlemen. He explained that the Government’s objective is to ensure that every urban centre has access to its own road equipment rather than relying on machinery shared across an entire district.
President Museveni further invited more Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in Uganda, noting that stronger trade, investment and economic cooperation would benefit both countries.
The President emphasised that Uganda’s broader objective is to promote prosperity and improve household incomes, while building mutually beneficial economic partnerships with countries such as Japan.
He noted that greater prosperity in both Uganda and Japan would create opportunities for businesses, communities and citizens of the two countries.
