President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with CAF Secretary General Samson Adamu and members of the National AFCON Task Force at State House Entebbe for an update on Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The National AFCON Task Force, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, briefed the President on the progress being made ahead of the continental football tournament.
President Museveni directed the relevant Government institutions and agencies to accelerate preparations, with particular attention to key infrastructure required for the tournament. These include training grounds, roads, airport facilities and accommodation, especially in the upcountry cities expected to host AFCON activities.
The President emphasised the need to complete the necessary works within the required timelines and ensure that all facilities meet the standards expected for the tournament.
President Museveni also announced plans to engage his counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania on a proposed single visa arrangement for AFCON 2027. The initiative would seek to make movement between the three host countries easier for visitors during the tournament.
Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania are jointly preparing to host AFCON 2027, requiring close regional coordination as the three countries work towards delivering the necessary facilities and services for the competition.
