Honoring Janani Luwum and Advancing Leadership Through Service

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Museveni joined Christians in Wii-Gweng, Mucwini (Kitgum), to commemorate 49 years since the martyrdom of Archbishop Janani Luwum.

Reflecting on history, President Museveni noted that leadership based on force and intimidation, as seen during Idi Amin’s regime, brings only suffering. True leadership, he emphasized, is built through persuasion, good deeds, and service to the people.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has consistently upheld this principle. Even during times when support in Northern Uganda was limited, the government extended electricity, upgraded health centres, and improved the road network. These efforts eventually earned recognition from the people, who expressed their confidence by saying: “NRM maber.” President Museveni expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support in the recently concluded elections.

Looking ahead, the government plans to construct a fitting memorial for Archbishop Janani Luwum and take decisive measures to curb cattle rustling in East Acholi.

The President expressed his appreciation to the people of Northern Uganda for their continued trust and support.
