President Museveni Highlights Uganda’s Production Strength and the Importance of Pan-African Unity

From Iganga, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni proceeded to Nakawa, where he addressed Kampala’s NRM local leaders and called upon them to actively champion Uganda’s interests and the broader African agenda.

The President underscored Uganda’s remarkable economic transformation over the years. He noted that while the country once relied on smuggling sugar, Uganda now produces approximately 700,000 tonnes annually, far exceeding the domestic demand of 300,000 tonnes. In the dairy sector, Uganda produces about 5.3 billion litres of milk each year, yet consumes less than 1 billion litres, leaving a surplus of over 4 billion litres. Similar progress has been recorded in the production of cement, timber, and other key commodities.

President Museveni emphasized that these production surpluses clearly demonstrate why Africa-wide markets and Pan-African cooperation are essential for sustained economic growth and shared prosperity. He explained that Uganda’s future, like that of the continent, depends on unity, expanded trade, and collective economic interests.

He further stressed that it is for this reason that the NRM rejects divisive politics based on identity, and instead promotes national unity, peace, and economic cooperation as the true foundation for long-term development and progress.
