I also visited Mr Edward Mubiru, a former fisherman turned model farmer in Buvuma District. I thanked him for embracing the government’s message on wealth creation and for abandoning the overburdened fishing sector in favour of productive land-based enterprises. He listened to our message about removing poverty, used the NAADS funds wisely, and expanded into coffee and dairy farming. Regarding the issue of overfishing in the lake, I want to thank the fishermen, as some of them have now recognised the problem. Overfishing has led to overcrowding, which was burdening the lake. That is why the government introduced licences to ensure that only serious and responsible individuals fish, while others, like Mr Mubiru, explore different livelihoods. Let the few who are capable and disciplined be allowed to fish.
