Uganda to Chair the African Peer Review Forum in 2026

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today welcomed Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, together with the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) delegation. He announced that Uganda will assume the chairmanship of the African Peer Review Forum in February 2026—an important opportunity to shape the continent’s governance and development agenda.

The APRM provides African leaders with a vital platform to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and collectively strengthen governance systems. President Museveni emphasised that the upcoming discussions will focus on critical issues such as market integration. He noted that without assured markets, businesses across the continent face serious challenges in sustaining growth.

He further underscored the need for Africa to transition from exporting raw materials to investing in value addition through processing. This, he explained, not only retains wealth within African economies but also generates much-needed jobs for citizens.

President Museveni highlighted that for Africa to remain competitive globally, production costs must be reduced. Key areas include lowering the costs of transport, electricity, and access to affordable bank credit—factors that directly influence productivity and industrial growth.
