Today, President Yoweri Museveni officially commissioned the De Heus Fish Feed Factory in Njeru, Buikwe District. This milestone follows his recent PDM tour, which included engagements with local fish farmers. Recognizing the challenge of fish feed availability, the President collaborated with the National Enterprise Corporation, and today’s commissioning demonstrates the success of private sector investment from the Netherlands.

The factory addresses a critical gap in the fish farming sector. Moving forward, emphasis will be placed on producing quality raw materials such as maize and sunflower, while exploring the profitability of soybean cultivation in partnership with farmers—potentially through the formation of a soybean growers’ association.

President Museveni also highlighted the positive impact of his initiative to transition farmers from rice cultivation in swamps to fish farming, a move that contributes to the protection of the Nile and other vital water resources.

The President expressed gratitude to the Dutch investors for their commitment to Uganda’s development and wished them success in this venture.
