President Museveni Addresses Acholi Leaders on Budget Priorities and Compensation Matters

Today, President Yoweri Museveni met with Acholi leaders to highlight the critical importance of strategic budgeting and prioritisation in the coming term. He emphasized that providing free education in government schools for children should remain a top priority.

On the matter of compensation, President Museveni acknowledged challenges with the existing lists of beneficiaries. To address these concerns, he proposed the following actions:

  1. Publication of Compensation Lists: Compensation lists will be made publicly available in every sub-county to ensure transparency. This will help identify inaccuracies and enable corrective measures. Additionally, an audit will be conducted for the 4,000 individuals in Acholi who have already received compensation, as well as the 12,000 verified individuals who are yet to be compensated.

  2. Strategic Approach to Empowerment and Cattle Restocking: A decision will be made on whether to prioritise cattle restocking and compensation for verified individuals or to implement a broader empowerment strategy that benefits all homesteads in Northern Uganda.

President Museveni announced that a dedicated committee will be established to oversee these initiatives and provide updates within the next month.
