Yesterday, I delivered a lecture of opportunity to student officers from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College who are here for a study tour on Climate Change, Environment, Security, and Development. I emphasised the need for African nations to adopt clean, affordable electricity to combat environmental degradation and promote socio-economic transformation. We must transition from biomass fuels to modern energy sources to protect our environment. The decline in Uganda's annual water outflow to South Sudan through the Nile, which has dropped from 60 billion to 40 billion cubic meters since the 1960s, partly due to deforestation for cooking, highlights this urgent need.
