The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, popularly known as Chief Muzzukulu, has toured several parts of Kampala to monitor the Local Council I (LC1) Chairperson elections.
The elections were conducted in villages across Uganda under the Electoral Commission’s open lining-up voting system, giving residents an opportunity to choose leaders who will oversee affairs at the village level.
During her tour, Namyalo called on Ugandans to elect responsible and development-focused leaders who can work with government to improve service delivery and promote economic development in their communities.
She began her monitoring exercise in Kigogwa, Nakawa, before proceeding to Kalina Abbiri Village I, where she visited Ntinda Hospital Polling Station and interacted with voters and election officials.
Namyalo urged residents to support leaders who understand the needs of their communities and are ready to work closely with government in implementing development programmes.
She later visited Banda B1–Acholi Quarters, where she monitored the voting process and encouraged residents to choose leaders committed to development, poverty reduction and accountable leadership.
The ONC Manager continued her tour to Kamwanyi Zone in Nsambya, Mukiyembe and Kabalagala Central, where she assessed the progress of the elections.
She commended residents for maintaining peace and order during the exercise and encouraged communities to continue respecting the outcome of the elections.
In Nsambya, Namyalo visited Goodwill Polling Station, where she had intended to cast her vote. However, she found that Igogo Catherine had already been declared elected unopposed, meaning there was no need to conduct voting at the polling station.
Namyalo congratulated the newly elected LC1 Chairperson and pledged to work with the local leadership to address community development priorities.
Among the areas highlighted were road improvements and expanding access to government empowerment and wealth-creation programmes.
Throughout her tour, Namyalo stressed the importance of LC1 Chairpersons in connecting communities with government.
She noted that village leaders play an important role in community mobilisation, local security, conflict resolution, land matters and the implementation of government programmes.
They also help communities access and participate in initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
Namyalo therefore urged newly elected leaders to put the interests of residents first and ensure that government programmes reach their intended beneficiaries.
She also called for peaceful, free and credible elections, urging candidates, voters and other stakeholders to respect the will of the people and avoid intimidation or interference in the electoral process.
## ONC Coordinators Deployed Across the Country
According to the ONC, its district and regional coordinators were deployed across Uganda to encourage citizens to participate in the elections and monitor the performance of NRM candidates.
The office stressed that the coordinators were not deployed to interfere with the work of the Electoral Commission.
As the elections concluded, Namyalo described strong grassroots leadership as essential to improving service delivery and ensuring government programmes have a meaningful impact at the community level.
“The leaders elected today will shape the direction of our villages for the next five years. Let us continue to support leaders who will work for the people and bring government services closer to every community,” Namyalo said.
