Strengthening Uganda–Egypt Economic Ties for Shared Prosperity

During my visit to Cairo, I had the privilege of attending the Egypt–Uganda Business Forum alongside His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

I could not come to Egypt without seeking opportunities to unlock greater economic cooperation. Uganda and Egypt have been historically bound by the River Nile, a connection that dates back centuries. Yet, despite this shared heritage, our trade volume remains modest at only USD 133 million—a figure that does not reflect the true potential of our relationship.

Uganda’s economic progress has been built on the careful integration of philosophy, ideology, and pragmatic strategies. However, to sustain and accelerate this growth, we must strengthen our partnerships. What we require most is investment capital and entrepreneurship, areas in which Egypt can play a vital role.

By deepening bilateral trade, Uganda can purchase from Egypt, Egypt can purchase from Uganda, and together we can open pathways to the wider African market. This collaboration will not only reinforce our economies but also advance the vision of a more integrated and prosperous Africa.
