President Museveni Meets First NRM Caucus of the 12th Parliament, Endorses Leadership Choices for Speaker and Deputy Speaker

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this evening met the first National Resistance Movement (NRM) Caucus of the 12th Parliament at State House Entebbe, where he welcomed the Caucus’ endorsement of Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth as the NRM candidate for Speaker of Parliament and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as the candidate for Deputy Speaker.

President Museveni congratulated both leaders on their endorsement and commended the Caucus for its commitment to the movement’s principles and values.

Addressing members of the Caucus, President Museveni emphasized that since the inception of the NRM, the movement has consistently rejected divisive and self-serving politics. He noted that leadership selection should always be guided by the needs and aspirations of the people rather than personal interests or identity considerations.

The President stressed that politics must rise above religion, tribalism, gender chauvinism, and other forms of sectarianism, focusing instead on finding practical solutions to the challenges facing citizens.

President Museveni further highlighted that the NRM’s core mission remains the transformation of society through wealth creation and socio-economic development. He called upon leaders to continue championing productive engagement in key sectors such as agriculture, services, artisanship, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which remain critical drivers of employment, household income, and national prosperity.

He urged the newly elected legislators to remain focused on delivering tangible results for Ugandans and advancing the country's development agenda through principled leadership and service to the people.
