Celebrating 39 Years of Economic Transformation NRM/Victory Day Reflections on Uganda's Progress

Today, I joined fellow Ugandans to celebrate the 39th NRM/Victory Day anniversary, reflecting on our economic transformation since independence. Initially, only 9% of our economy was monetized , with severe impacts during Idi Amin's regime leading to a collapse in key sectors. Our five-stage recovery plan revitalised industries like coffee and tea, boosting production significantly. We also diversified our economy by turning maize into a lucrative export and fostering growth in the milk and textile sectors. Recognising the need for a knowledge-based economy, we are now driving innovation in manufacturing and vaccine development. Initiatives like the OWC program and the PDM have been introduced to support beneficiaries and get people out of poverty. Therefore, my fellow Ugandans, for wealth and jobs, please listen. Join any of the four sectors: commercial agriculture (intensive and extensive); manufacturing or artisanship; services; and ICT.
