At the first campaign rally in Buvuma District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, together with Maama Janet Museveni and the NRM leadership, officially presented the NRM 2026–2031 Manifesto to the people of the islands.

President Museveni acknowledged that Buvuma remains the only district in Uganda without electricity, describing the situation as unacceptable. He emphasized that this challenge must be urgently addressed and confirmed that government plans are underway to extend power to the islands through rainfall-generated energy as well as a power cable from Mayuge. He directed responsible officials to clearly explain the causes of the delays and ensure swift implementation.

On the issue of oil palm development, President Museveni assured landowners that compensation will be fully paid, noting that the required funds are already available. He explained that payments will commence once verification of the rightful beneficiaries is completed. In addition, government plans include the establishment of palm oil processing factories on the island to add value and create local employment.

Recognizing the unique fishing-based livelihood of the Buvuma community, President Museveni also highlighted the need for boarding schools, enabling parents to work freely while ensuring their children access stable and quality education.

All the concerns raised by the people of Buvuma were carefully noted, and President Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking decisive action to improve service delivery and livelihoods on the islands.
