President Museveni, alongside President William Ruto, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the USD 500 million Devki Mega Steel Plant in Tororo. This landmark investment, spearheaded by Dr. Narendra Raval, represents a significant stride toward Africa’s long-awaited economic liberation.

For more than five centuries, the continent has suffered immense value loss through slavery, colonialism, and the export of unprocessed raw materials. The establishment of this fully integrated steel plant—set to employ over 15,000 Ugandans—brings the country closer to reversing this historical trend. It will help Uganda retain more of its mineral wealth, protect local jobs, and strengthen the nation’s foreign exchange position.
This project marks a powerful step toward building an economically independent and industrially advanced Africa.
