The head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, has called on the people of Sironko District to remain steadfast in their support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, describing him as a pillar of strength and a reliable leader committed to improving livelihoods.
Hajjat Namyalo made the remarks during an ONC empowerment drive held at Sironko Playground, where thousands of residents turned up to receive a variety of start-up items aimed at boosting household incomes and creating sustainable livelihoods.
Addressing the gathering, Namyalo urged residents to fully embrace government poverty alleviation programs, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is designed to transition communities from subsistence farming to income-generating enterprises.
“Prioritize unity and embrace government programs like the PDM. Do not be misled by leaders who keep you lagging behind in development when you vote for them blindly,” she cautioned.
She further emphasized the need to avoid divisive politics and instead focus on initiatives that foster long-term development and prosperity.
The event also witnessed a significant political shift, as several members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) publicly defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The defectors cited frustration over persecution, imprisonment, and lack of meaningful benefits despite their loyalty to the opposition.
Woman MP for Sironko District, Hon. Aisha Mafabi Nabulo, who hosted Hajjat Namyalo, commended her for championing reconciliation and welcoming the defectors into the NRM family.
“These NUP members were once very hostile and resistant to the NRM, but thanks to Hajjat Namyalo’s efforts, they have now returned home,” MP Nabulo remarked.
In response, Namyalo thanked the defectors for their decision and encouraged them to remain committed to President Museveni’s leadership.
“Thank you very much for this bold decision. I urge you to remain firm in your support for President Museveni and look to him as your true leader,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Sironko leaders, led by MP Nabulo, presented to Namyalo the district’s key challenges and ongoing strategies to consolidate support for the NRM. They highlighted the urgent need for more empowerment programs, improved service delivery, and strengthened grassroots mobilization.
Namyalo reassured the people of Sironko that the Office of the National Chairman will continue rolling out initiatives targeting women and youth, in line with President Museveni’s vision of poverty eradication and sustainable community transformation.
