The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), SPA/PA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting market vendors across Uganda, urging them to embrace government wealth-creation programmes to improve their livelihoods and fight household poverty.
Namyalo made the remarks on Wednesday evening while presiding over the grand finale of the Nakawa Market Vendors’ Football Tournament at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.
Addressing thousands of market vendors, football fans and local leaders, Namyalo said President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s new term provides Ugandans with another opportunity to work towards sustainable household incomes and economic development.
“Getting out of poverty in Museveni’s new kisanja is mandatory,” Namyalo said.
She encouraged vendors to remain united and actively participate in programmes aimed at increasing household income, productivity and economic independence.
Namyalo also called on traders to work together and take advantage of available government initiatives designed to support ordinary Ugandans in creating sustainable sources of income.
Kasoli FC Crowned Champions
The tournament, which ran for a month, ended with Kasoli FC emerging as champions.
Namyalo rewarded Kasoli FC with UGX1 million in cash, while runners-up Nyanya FC received UGX500,000.
Nyama FC, who finished third, received UGX300,000, while the Cassava Vendors team walked away with UGX200,000.
Namyalo praised the tournament organisers for using football to bring market vendors together and promote teamwork and peaceful coexistence within the business community.
She noted that sporting activities can play an important role in strengthening relationships among traders while also providing opportunities to identify and develop sporting talent.
ONC Pledges Continued Grassroots Support
The event was also attended by Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda, alongside local leaders, vendors and football supporters.
Namyalo reaffirmed the Office of the National Chairman’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Ugandans.
She said the ONC would continue encouraging communities to participate in programmes that promote economic empowerment and complement the government’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda under President Museveni.
