The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) leaders in Lira City West Division have officially endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their preferred candidate for the 2026 general elections. This endorsement followed a consultative meeting held on June 28, 2025.
The meeting was organized by Mr. Olipa Tonny, the NRM Chairperson for Lira City West Division, and brought together division leaders, NRM league representatives, and officials from the ONC, including the Regional Coordinator for the Lango Sub-region.
The main purpose of the meeting was to develop strategies for grassroots mobilization in response to President Museveni’s formal decision to pick nomination forms for both the NRM National Chairperson role and the party’s presidential flag bearer position.
While addressing the gathering, the ONC Regional Coordinator confirmed that President Museveni—affectionately known by many supporters as “Jajja M7”—had officially picked the nomination forms. She urged all party members to strengthen grassroots mobilization in order to build strong support for his 2026 campaign.
This announcement was welcomed with excitement and applause, as participants praised the President’s leadership, experience, and legacy. Many in attendance described him as the most capable leader to guide Uganda through the next stage of growth and development, citing his achievements in peace, stability, and economic progress.
The meeting concluded with key resolutions. Most notably, all members present unanimously pledged 100% support for President Museveni in both the party’s internal elections and the national presidential race.
Leaders also committed to enhancing grassroots structures to increase voter turnout and expand support across the division and the wider region.
Additionally, participants stressed the importance of unity, discipline, and teamwork during the campaign period. They were encouraged to actively address community needs while also promoting the accomplishments of the NRM government.
The ONC leadership called on members to remain focused and proactive in spreading the party’s message. Attendees reaffirmed their loyalty to the core values of the NRM and shared a strong sense of optimism about Uganda’s future under President Museveni’s continued leadership.
