President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officiated at the International Day of Older Persons celebrations at State House Entebbe, where he encouraged older people to embrace modern approaches to wealth preservation and inheritance.
The President noted that some older people divide their property among their children, which can gradually fragment family wealth. He encouraged families to consider modern inheritance approaches, including shareholding arrangements, that can allow assets and businesses to remain productive while benefiting future generations.

President Museveni said the Government’s objective is to help older people who have accumulated wealth preserve it, while supporting those without sufficient income or assets to improve their livelihoods through existing Government programmes.
He further announced plans to develop a Parish Development Model (PDM) programme tailored to the needs of older persons after the Government concludes its financial commitments related to AFCON.
The President also highlighted healthcare as a major concern for older people, who often face increased medical needs and expenses. He proposed that the Government sponsor the training and recruitment of geriatricians across the country, with the goal of having a specialist in each district to provide regular and free medical support to older persons.
President Museveni emphasised the importance of combining financial security, sustainable wealth management and accessible healthcare to improve the welfare and quality of life of Uganda’s older population.
