President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth-Oboth upon his election as Speaker of Parliament and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa on his election as Deputy Speaker. The President also commended Members of Parliament for conducting the voting process peacefully, transparently, and in accordance with their constitutional mandate.
President Museveni praised the maturity and democratic spirit demonstrated throughout the election, noting that the process reflected the strength of Uganda’s parliamentary institutions and commitment to democratic governance.
The President further observed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates secured more votes than the party’s numerical strength in Parliament, indicating support from beyond the party's membership. He also acknowledged the votes garnered by allied candidates, including those associated with the Democratic Party leadership.
President Museveni emphasized the importance of fostering greater cohesion and collaboration within Parliament, stating that efforts will be made to strengthen unity among legislators. He underscored the need for a united Parliament that can effectively advance national development priorities and better serve the interests of the Ugandan people.
The President reiterated his commitment to working closely with Parliament to promote stability, progress, and improved service delivery for all citizens.
