Entebbe, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni hosted Muslim leaders and faithful for an Iftar dinner at State House, Entebbe. The gathering, held on the 25th night of Ramadan, focused on socioeconomic transformation, national unity, and economic empowerment.

Deputy Mufti Sheikh Ali Waiswa, speaking on behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, urged Muslim leaders to incorporate economic empowerment into their teachings. He highlighted the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s poverty eradication programs, which align with government initiatives, and encouraged Muslims to use Ramadan as a time for reconciliation and strengthening community bonds.

President Museveni commended the Muslim community for embracing government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM). He acknowledged past concerns about interest on loans but explained that scholars had since recognized the need to adjust for inflation. He emphasized that prayer alone cannot eliminate poverty and encouraged active participation in income-generating activities for economic growth.
